| i have numerous piles of random "stuff" i have to pull from her mouth. literally, every 1 to 2 minutes, i am yelling, "no." she reminds me of a two year old so much. why do they not chew on their own toys? i live for nap time. ;) the older dog just looks on, annoyed ["kinder, i am like, so much more mature than you."]
so, we are here in Altus, Oklahoma--and no longer living out of the car. after a week or so of dealing with a very unpleasant, very unorganized, and very lazy property manager, we gave up and went to another apartment complex. (she is the reason we know call Oklahomians "lazy texans"). i had previously been told that this apartment complex did not allow pets. but, leave it to ben to sweet talk them into it [j/k, he just happened to talk to the "right person"].
we have found SO much more to do here at Altus than we did in Del Rio. there are a few "mountains" just north and east of town, and we take the dogs there often to run around and hike. the club here on base is so much nicer than the one they had at Laughlin (i really hated going there. it was like a church fellowship hall with bad lighting and horrible bar service). we have started going there on friday nights and cooking up some burgers on their grill inside by the bar. it feels more like a pub than anything else. and there are no obnoxious fighter pilots there!
restaurants here are not much better than del rio. so i cook a lot. but i can't complain because that's really what i LOVE to do. i've found that if i am not cooking, i am most likely watching the Food Network, reading a cookbook, or browsing food stuff on the internet. maybe not all the time, but i'm a little obsessed. it is a wonder i have not gained twenty pounds.
last weekend we went paint-balling (my first time). i was SO scared after hearing horror stories about bleeding bruises that linger for half a year. we got to the outdoor rec place, and i noticed that they were charging the guys fifty bucks. being the frugal cheap person that i am (and seeing a good "out"), i opted to just watch and take pictures. well, we got to the field, and they decided to do four teams, rotating in and out. since there were plenty of guns, i took a few turns. it was a lot more fun than i had imagined, but it did hurt. we lost every time because i was on the 5 man team with two other girls, and two aussies. it's not that the aussies are bad players, but c'mon. whose idea was it to put ALL THREE GIRLS on the same team?! everyone was all excited about playing a final round of americans + brits vs. aussies. i sat out on that one, but after all our bragging, i think we lost ;)
oh, you should all see my paintball garb. old BDU pants and a nice green "grandpa" sweatshirt. NICE. we saw a bright blue sweatshirt at goodwill that i seriously considered buying (had it not been for the color). it was classic. it had a big american flag and said, "U.S.A. America." it might as well have said, "i am a stupid american because i don't even realize that this is repetitve." :P
i have finally made my way to the final harry potter. it will be a sad day when i reach the end of these seven hundered something pages nad realize that it is over.

| friday. we had the final inspection at our house. the guy was more interested in talking about guitars and hunting in the north east, so naturally it was a breeze. of course i did spend most of the previous days cleaning it really, really well. afterwards, we took the puppies to a little puppy hotel (kennel). we started the drive down to corpus christi with some friends who were also traveling from laughlin. it's never really a good idea to take a road trip on three hours of sleep. half way there, we were driving along this windy texas backroad, and our friends in front of us slowed down, while a semi was passing us on the other side. i wasn't terribly close behind him, but he drives a large pickup, so i could not see what was laying in the road. i hit a tire. NICE. it didn't seem that it did too much damage, so we kept rolling on. finally arrived in corpus (4.5 hours, not too far) and drove around the base (it's a naval station), found the O club and found our friends there. met up at bill's house...which was not at all shabby (umm..he lives on a canal. the ocean is practically in his back yard. so. not. fair.). it's a good thing i'm not as terribly bitter about del rio as i had been...because corpus christi is amazingly beautiful and they have a lot of good shopping there. that night we went out to niko's for dinner, coldstone for ice-cream, and then to the O club to visit with some friends. it was good to see some familiar faces ! i had to laugh when they started singing "it's raining men" at a navy o club. and the girls wearing stripper heels were very....interesting. but just like every other winging or drop party, they were playing the regular games and having "normal" conversation. i would describe it here (because i'm sure most people would get a kick otu of it), but it's a little much for sensitive ears ;) at the end of the evening, we get a phone call from a roommate. "did ben mean to leave his car on this entire time?" atleast it wasn't me abusing the car this time around. saturday. it rained most of the day, so we went to cracker barrell for some good old southern breakfast. nice place to be while storms are outside the door. :) played at the beach after the storms went away. sunday. went to church at the best church i've been to in texas (i haven't been a fan of any of the churches we have visited this entire year)...such a nice relief! good message. monday. left corpus, went up to san antonio to drop off some paperwork for ben, picked up a dog kennel, and went back to del rio. we got back to del rio late, went to the gym, came back to patrick's trailer. it's been HOT here....their AC has been out all week and their landlord will not get it fixed. poor guys. :( well, i'm typing fast and finishing this up because i believe "the biggest loser" is comign on, and i CANNOT miss it! | | |
| totally reminicing about those energy drinks and coffees...late nights and early mornings in college. because, well? i'm practically there again. funny...how at the busiest times in my life i find a spare two minutes to journal.
finally finished harry potter 4. ridiculous how long it took me, mostly because ben's graduation and a busy schedule interrupted my life.
the news is that we are moving next thursday instead of two weeks from now. this means i am frantically painting, trying to sort through and finish huge amounts of photo projects, pack everything i could possibly need for the next six months + schedule numerous photoshoots. i am going to have to turn some people down because i simply do not have time during daylight hours!! sad. but i am sure that the other photographer girls on base would be happy to take on some photoshoots.
we have our pre-inspection in the morning. the movers come on wednesday, i think.
i dressed up like wilma flinstone today for a trade fair at work. i have to say that our booth was absolutley the most innovative and best decorated. i have no idea if we ended up winning that competition, but i will return to bad mouthing the politics of small towns if we did not win. because it was simply the best. and not because it was ours, but sorry...i have a very critical eye, so .... :)
anyway. back to editing pictures. a little overwhelmed. but that's not a bad problem to have ! i love editing.

| lots of good, happy news over here at the chapman's.
*we will be welcoming a new chapman into the clan sometime next summer! NO, i'm not pregnant! hahaha, i had ya for a second, huh? patrick and ashley got engaged over the weekend and i believe they are planning to get hitched after he graduates in june 08. YAY patrick + ashley!!! i think everyone is SUPER excited!
* tomorrow, my parents, nathan, christopher, mamachap, and aunt cathy are all coming down to del rio for ben's graduation! he graduates on friday!!
*ben + i are heading to altus afb in oklahoma on october 5th. yes, one month from today. i just found out today. such is the life of a wife in the AF. actually, we are not sure what we will be doing....we have to figure out what to do with the dogs (do we take them with us?? where can we leave them otherwise?). we could also just keep our house here, but then we do not make extra moolah. so many decisions to make in such a short period of time.
*ben has to report into dover on march 30th! yeeeeaaaah!!!
well, i'm off to clean house, make cookies, and find out about housing at altus. please pray that we figure out something brilliant and that our dogs will not ruin anything else at this house (i got home from work the other day to find siding on the shed pulled up. UUUUURGH. so much anger.).

| hello, world! after reading a host of everyone's xanga posts (my subscriptions this week have been bursting at the seams), i figured i should head over to my little xanga world and give this blog some love. if you haven't already heard me yelling from laughlin, received a text message, phone call, email, etc etc etc, WE ARE GOING TO DOVER, DELAWARE!!!!! ben will be flying the c-17 (the dream heavy plane!), and *hopefully* i will be working full time + continuing my photography business up there. we shall see how things pan out. we are planning on buying a house (*gulp*) instead of living on base. it just makes sense to take the money the air force is offering us and putting it into something we will own. i'm hoping that my job will allow us to live close to base instead of further away...just so that i can continue to have base-social life and easy access to the gym. we are very excited to have the drews (some of our bestest friends here in del rio!) going with us! how lucky are we?! i feel like i wasted so much time at laughlin whining about how horrible del rio was...it took quite a few months for me to get into the swing of things and enjoy life NOT WORKING. strange, yes. but now i know that i will cry like a baby as soon as we leave. i have made so many wonderful friends here and i hate that we all have to spread apart in a few months. some us are moving to the east coast...others to japan...alaska...midwest....and some will still be at laughlin. i have to say that i am happy to be the one leaving instead of staying...it's hard enough leaving all your friends, but it's even harder being the one staying behind. that's okay. i'm thinking those of us that are leaving will have to send back some target love. well, i'm heading out. life has been unbeliveably busy these past few weeks and i have very little time for the internet right now. | | |
